You Can Start Losing Weight
If you’re not exactly Mr. or Ms. Body Beautiful because of your more generous proportions, it would be hard to remain impervious to the sight of people with buff or shapely bodies in magazines and on TV. And so, sooner or later, you get around to thinking: I’ve got to start losing weight. With many others in the same shape, membership in gyms and other fitness facilities has been growing steadily, and billions of dollars are being spent on various fitness and weight loss products.
Advertising of these products is all too pervasive on TV. Infomercials abound touting the benefits of home gym equipment and other contraptions intended to get rid of those love handles, that potbelly, etc. But lest we forget, an exercise routine is just one-half of the formula for getting or keeping fit. The other half is a healthy diet.
We Need More Energy
Diets differ mainly on which food group is heavily emphasized, sometimes to the exclusion of other food groups. For example, high-fat diets endorse the consumption of fat-rich foods. The Atkins diet advocates a high-protein, high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet. High-carb diets call for plenty of foods rich in carbohydrates. It is designed to use the glycogen stored in the liver and muscles. Glycogen is the body’s auxiliary energy source, converted back into glucose when we need more energy, such as when doing anaerobic exercise.
Get Organized and Get Healthy
Other things to consider when choosing a diet are balance, moderation, and variety. No food group should be left out or else your body will be deprived of some essential nutrients. Health organizations have established levels of essential nutrients that a person must include in his diet to be in good health. Having a variety of food choices is important to keep you from giving up on the diet. The diet should also give you enough flexibility to substitute foods you don’t really like with something more to your taste.
Stick to A Good Healthy Diet
A proper diet regimen, however, isn’t only about losing fat. Whatever the diet regimen, it boils down to the question of which will work best for you. Working to get a healthy body should not pose too much of a hardship. Several studies have time and again shown that sustainable weight loss can be attained only with a diet that suits a person best in terms of his lifestyle, food preferences, and the general state of his health. You may lose weight by following a variety of diets, but only one will help you succeed in keeping it off. And this is the one that is a perfect fit for you. Unless you’re comfortable with your diet, chances are you’ll just drop out and then start looking for another diet.c
