Loss Weigh in Gym

The Gym is Usually Considered the Right Place

All too often when people think of weight loss they think of dieting.  Some may consider going for a run, or for a cycle, but very few people think of how they may be able to lose weight at the gym.  The gym is usually considered the right place for toning up and any weight loss there is simply time spent on the treadmill or cycling machines anyway.

But this is far from the case.  Whilst dieting does work, and jogging and cycling are excellent ways to lose weight, the gym is actually full of powerful ways of losing weight that you haven’t considered.

Weight Lifting

The most overlooked and misunderstood aspect of losing weight in gym is actually to pump some iron.  Generally people think of weight lifting as either building massive muscles, or at least helping to tone muscles.

Whilst these are both true to a certain extent it is very easy to use weight lifting to help you lose weight without packing on massive amounts of muscle.  In fact weight lifting can actually be one of the most powerful weight loss techniques there is.

How Weight Lifting Helps You Lose Weight

Did you know that weight lifting is more efficient at raising the metabolism than running, cycling, swimming etc?  Just by doing a small amount of weight lifting you are able to boost your metabolism quicker and for far longer than by any other method.

Since it is your metabolism that decides how many calories get burned doing various tasks, form exercise to simply doing the ironing, it is a major contributor to weight loss.

Burn the Fat

On top of that weight lifting can really help burn fat directly.  By using a low weight at a high amount of ‘repetitions’ you are able to dramatically increase the amount of calories you are burning.

If you are building muscle as well as looking for weight loss the news is even better again.  Even at rest muscle burns more calories than fat – so if you are losing weight lifting to gain muscle you efforts to lose fat will increase for every pound of muscle you put on.
