People Start A Weight Loss Programe Not Primarily For Health Reasons But To Improve Appearance
We’ve all heard the saying “Never judge a book by its cover” but unfortunately, a lot of people do. Regardless of what good qualities a person might have, society often judges him on the basis of his physical appearance. Let’s face it: people who are overweight, especially if extremely so, are not always treated the same way as people of normal weight are. This is why a lot of people start a weight loss program not primarily for health reasons but in order to improve their appearance.
Based on how much excess weight a person has, it would be best for him to consult his doctor on a suitable plan of action for his specific situation. The doctor would be likely to advise him to change his eating habits and food choices as well as to exercise.
If you are one of the over 60% who are overweight, here are some helpful tips that should help considerably in improving your quality of life.
Start A Weight Loss Program With Mileposts
With the help of your doctor, start a weight loss program. It should have some mileposts or short-term goals by which its results can be evaluated. Write them down and put them where you can’t miss seeing them every day. Draw up a plan to include some form of physical activity. Begin with a basic plan that may include simple activities like brisk walking and gradually increase the level of intensity involved such as jogging or running. There is an infinite variety of physical activities available for you, and you can choose one or two that you find enjoyable so that you will actually look forward to doing it instead of dreading it.
Do A Variety of Exercise
When you have accustomed your body to a heightened level of physical activity, you can start a more formal exercise program. Do a variety of exercise routines instead of staying with the same one throughout. This is because muscles work under the principle of economy of effort. A few weeks after beginning a workout routine, your muscles will no longer react with the same level of effectiveness as when you first started. You’ve reached a plateau and no matter how much effort you put into it, nothing happens. By changing your routine from time to time, you will allow the muscles to unlearn the previous exercises, and you will start losing weight again.
8 Glasses of Water a Day Helps Prevent The Build Up of Fatty Deposits
Not many people realize it, but water also helps in weight loss. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day will help prevent the buildup of fatty deposits. Opt for plain water instead of fruit juice, soda and other highly sweetened drinks. The trouble with fruit juice (even if 100% natural with no sugar added) is that it causes you to consume far more sugar than if you were to eat the whole fruit. When you drink orange juice, you usually drink 8 to 12 ounces, which is equivalent to eating 2 or 3 oranges. The result is you’re taking in as much sugar as in a can of regular soda.
Don’t Restrict Yourself to Bland Unappetizing Meals
A healthy diet doesn’t necessarily mean restricting yourself to bland and unappetizing meals. It’s about eating nutritious food in moderate amounts, with an occasional sweet treat. This is more realistic than cutting out all the foods you like, which could result in food cravings that will mess up your diet plan. Your diet should include foods rich in fiber such as whole-grain bread, legumes (beans and lentils), fruits and vegetables. Fiber keeps you feeling full longer and works with water to help the body wash away fatty deposits instead of storing it.
